Installation Guide

Before you begin, please read instructions carefully.

1. Rolling Out the Boardwalk

  • Position the first section at the starting point of your desired path

  • roll the section out into place

  • Add additional sections as needed. Connecting them with inboard or outboard connectors (see diagram)

"OUTBOARD" Connectors take less time to install & remove and are generally preferred for temporary, seasonal installations.

"INBOARD" Connectors are somewhat more time consuming and are generally preferred for more permanent installations.

2. Adapting to Terrain

  • Gentle Slopes or Undulations: Simply roll the Boardwalk Out- it will typically adjust to small rises and dips without special preparation.

  • Gentle Curves: Straight sections can flex slightly left or right to form broad, arching curves.

  • Sharp Curves: Use 45° or 90° "cookie cutter" curved sections or request custom curved sections if needed

Tip for Maximum Curve with a Straight Section:

Tug each section slightly left or right during installation, and leave out a connecting spacer on the inside edge where sections connect.

3. Special Terrain Considerations

At The Beach or on Loose Sand

  • Always begin and end the Boardwalk on a flat surface.

  • Avoid starting/ending on a slope (e.g., the side of a dune), as foot traffic will cause a lateral erosion and form holes.

  • Use Mister Boardwalk® over dunes to prevent erosion but extend it to the flat portion of the beach for stability.

Side Hill Slopes

  • Excavate the area so the Boardwalk sits level from side to side.

  • Place stakes on the low side to prevent creeping downhill.

Up or Downhill Slopes

  • Always stake the Boardwalk to prevent sliding, rope stretching, or slat bending.

  • Place stakes at:

    • Both sides of the bottom section.

    • Intervals going up the slope.

Note:

  • TREX® or other composite materials bend more easily, so steaking is required if used on slopes.

  • For extreme slopes, use Wide Spacing Boardwalks for better traction.

4. Alternative: FlexWalk for Sand Dunes

  • FlexWalk uses stainless steel rods instead of nylon cord.

  • When Installed over dunes on both sides, it creates a "saddle" effect, eliminating the need for staking.

5. Adjusting Rope Tension

  • A new Boardwalk may have gaps due to rope stretching during packaging.

  • The rope naturally shrinks in moisture (dew or rain), pulling the slats and spacers tight.

  • To speed this process during installation:

    • Push slats together manually

    • Run Water over the rope and spacers.
